What Is Blue Dream?
Blue Dream is a popular cannabis hybrid commonly described as sativa-dominant.
Its commonly reported genetics are Blueberry × Haze, although the exact history of the cultivar has some uncertainty. Leafly notes that Blue Dream has no universally acknowledged original breeder, while the widely accepted lineage is Blueberry crossed with Haze.
Blue Dream is particularly recognized for its sweet berry and blueberry flavor profile.
Leafly currently lists berry, blueberry, and sweet among its top flavors and identifies myrcene, pinene, and caryophyllene among its notable terpenes.
Its reported effects are generally described as creative, euphoric, and happy, with an overall profile that leans energizing.
What Is Wedding Cake?
Wedding Cake is a popular hybrid also known by names including Triangle Mints #23 and Pink Cookies, although strain naming can vary by market.
The version generally associated with Seed Junky’s Wedding Cake is a cross of Triangle Kush × Animal Mints. Leafly identifies this lineage and describes Wedding Cake as an indica-hybrid with mostly calming effects.
Wedding Cake has a very different flavor identity from Blue Dream.
Its commonly reported flavors include vanilla, pepper, and butter, while caryophyllene, limonene, and myrcene are among its notable terpenes.
Blue Dream vs Wedding Cake Genetics
Genetics are one of the biggest differences between these two strains.
Blue Dream genetics
Blue Dream is commonly described as:
Blueberry × Haze
This combination gives Blue Dream its hybrid background while contributing to its traditionally sativa-dominant classification.
Wedding Cake genetics
The modern, widely recognized Wedding Cake lineage is:
Triangle Kush × Animal Mints
Leafly’s strain information identifies this lineage and notes that Wedding Cake was once commonly reported as a GSC × Cherry Pie cross, but the original breeder maintains the Triangle Kush × Animal Mints lineage.
This distinction is important because cannabis strain names can sometimes be used inconsistently.
When comparing a specific product, the producer and breeder information should take priority over generic strain descriptions.
Is Blue Dream or Wedding Cake More Sativa?
Blue Dream is the more sativa-leaning option.
Blue Dream is generally described as a sativa-dominant hybrid, while Wedding Cake is generally described as an indica-hybrid with a more calming profile.
That doesn’t mean Blue Dream is a pure sativa or Wedding Cake is a pure indica.
Both are hybrids.
The difference is primarily in how each cultivar is traditionally classified and the characteristics commonly reported by consumers.
Is Blue Dream or Wedding Cake More Indica?
Wedding Cake is generally the more indica-leaning choice.
Leafly currently describes Wedding Cake as an indica-hybrid and reports that its effects are mostly calming.
Blue Dream, by comparison, is described as a sativa-dominant hybrid with mostly energizing effects.
For shoppers comparing the two, this is probably the simplest distinction:
Blue Dream = more sativa-leaning
Wedding Cake = more indica-leaning
Blue Dream vs Wedding Cake THC
Both Blue Dream and Wedding Cake can be relatively potent, but you should not assume that one strain always has a higher THC percentage than the other.
Current Leafly strain listings display approximately 21% THC for Blue Dream and 24% THC for Wedding Cake.
Those numbers are useful for general strain research, but they are not universal THC specifications.
A particular Blue Dream flower product could test differently from another Blue Dream batch. The same applies to Wedding Cake.
For an actual product, always check the current:
- THC percentage
- Total cannabinoid content
- Batch information
- Terpene results
- Certificate of analysis when available
This is much more useful than relying on a strain-wide THC number.

Blue Dream vs Wedding Cake: Which Strain Is Stronger?
There isn’t a universal answer.
Current Leafly listings show approximately 21% THC for Blue Dream and 24% THC for Wedding Cake, but these are strain-profile figures rather than guaranteed numbers for every product.
A specific Blue Dream product can have a different THC percentage from another Blue Dream product.
The same is true of Wedding Cake.
So when comparing two products at Metric Farms, compare the actual laboratory results for each batch rather than assuming Wedding Cake or Blue Dream is always stronger.

If you prefer vanilla, pepper, butter, and a more calming indica-leaning hybrid profile, Wedding Cake may be more appealing.
